Arts for Kids

Arts for Kids is the Juneau non-profit that actively assisted the Juneau School District in launching the district-wide elementary visual arts program in 2005.

Arts for Kids will continue to:

  • ADVOCATE within the school district for high quality, grade level specific arts education programs in all district schools
  • PROMOTE COMMUNITY AWARENESS regarding the importance of arts education in all district schools
  • PROVIDE A CORE GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS to launch letter writing, button and poster campaigns as well as host the annual Community Arts Celebration.

"It is important that students in the Juneau School District learn to appreciate, understand, create and criticize with discrimination, those products of the mind, voice, hand, and body which give dignity to the person and exalt the human spirit." – Juneau School District Arts Education Philosophy

"When we teach a child to sing or play an instrument, we teach her to listen. When we teach a child to draw, we teach her to see. When we teach a child to dance, we teach them about body and space. When we teach a child about the folk and traditional arts and great masterpieces, we teach them to celebrate their roots and find their place in history." – Jane Alexander
